Time management

For the past weeks I have been complaining 24/7 about the lack of time I have to create, and it's true, my time to create right now is pretty limited.
Sooo... why if I don't have a lot of time to make new artwork, I always use my little free time to do things like these?
hbday-titi hbday-abumery hbday-grandma hbday-daddy
(these are birthdays "cards" I made for my sister, my mom, my mother in law and my husband to post on facebook)

I believe my problem is not lack of time, my problem is time management ;)

Cardboard, paint and ink

I have been working on Ava's nursery in the past months. I'm not good decorating, but at least I could make some art for the walls. These 2 pieces were really easy and kind of fast to make.
I got a cardboard letter A at Joanns Fabric and a Deer on Urban Outfitters. I got a spray paint and in minutes the deer head was ready to hang in the wall. Easy, right?
The letter A took me a little bit longer, but everyday i did a little. And finally Ava is going to have some artwork in her nursery walls before she leave for college ;)

Busy Life

Life have been pretty busy the last months. Having a baby is wonderful.. and difficult! I'm still trying to find a balance and see how I'm going to take care of Ava and work at the same time. So far I just decide to take it easy until she turn 2 (or 3 or 6!) month and after that I will re open my Etsy shop ans see if I can manage everything (crazy, right?. I'm really wondering how other people do it... I guess I will have to take one step at the time. How you do it?

I owe you million of posts, but for some reason I was waiting to redesign my blog to come back in a new totally different phase of my life... but who was I kidding? I don't have time to take a shower, when I will find time to redesign this blog? Not any time soon!

Well... one step at the time, right? And because right now Ava is having a nap (taking about naps, Ava is 7 weeks old today, how many hours she should be sleeping during the day?), I can share with you a little something I start doing the last month. A few weeks ago I decided to do a little work every week. I wish I can paint a big canvas or do a new print, but usually I don't now how much time I will have available to paint, but I need to create in order to feel better... And if mama is happy, everybody is happy.

Sooo... Every Monday now is going to be Coloring Monday! Here the free coloring page for this week: (click here to download the 8.5 x 11 page) Coloring Monday!

12 weeks - 12 paintings

2 weeks ago I decided to challenge myself (as usual!) to create more before the baby arrive. I know I already made a huge list and goals of things to do before the baby, but I needed an specific project to push myself... because it's fun ;)
My new challenge is to paint a canvas (any size) per week until my due date. Hopefully the baby got the memo and she is going to be happily inside my belly until I finish the project.
I was planning to post about the challenge as soon I star it, but I wanted to be 100% commitment with it before posting. I already made 2 paintings because I start the project on my week 28 :)
Sooo here we go. My new challenge "12 weeks - 12 paintings"

- Week 1:
Tarquien. Watercolor and ink on canvas 8x8

tarquien

- Week 2:
Billy.  Acrylic and ink on canvas 6x6

Tonight I should decide what I'm going to paint this week ;)

And BTW, believe it or not, I finished to organize the supplies closet! Yeah me :)
Now it's a lot easier to find the art supplies, shipping materials, prints and goodies. And to be honest, only took me a few hours to do it... Why I had to procrastinate so much?

One shelf at a time

The other day I opened my supplies closet and I could find anything. Of course, who can find something in closet like this one?

 closet-01

I think it's time to put myself together and start organizing here. The first step was buying some simple plain bids. The bins arrived 3 days ago and were sitting really comfortable on my dinning table with a bunch of other stuffs (like prints, canvas, fabric, etc). I some point today i start to feel a little bit bad for not only having a big disaster in my studio but for spreading my disaster all over the place. Soooo.. today was the. Today (after my nap) I start organizing the closet...

 I only did one shelf.

Blame it to this belly ;)

One shelf ready... 4 to go! In the meantime, the living room still looks like this

Well, lets see what I do tomorrow.

Doing my best

hand A couple of months ago I was reading a post in Kal Barteski blog about a pain she had in her hands, and my heart ached bad for her. Being an artist I get super worry about my hands and eyes, and readings her posts, inspire me and make me more aware of spending time doing the art I love. Just a few weeks after reading her post I woke up with a weird new pain on my writs and I assumed I slept with my hands in a weird position or something like that. After a few days with the same pain in booth hands, I start wondering if the pain was a pregnancy related thing. I did a quick search and BOOM! I found that is "normal" to suffer of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome during the swelling during the pregnancy. I never felt morning sickness the first trimester or other uncomfortable symptoms, but I got the pain in my hands... NOT GOOD FOR ME. So far I have been handling the pain pretty good. I tried to don't complain because my pregnancy have been easy, no reason to complaint ;) But lately the pain have been bad.. really bad. Indeed I cried a little bit 2 nights ago and yesterday I couldn't work :( I know the pain is going to pass in a few months, and I'm grateful because this is is just something related to the pregnancy. In the meantime, I'm using my wrist braces and working a little bit more slow than usual. I'm just doing my best...

Downtime

Right now I'm fighting a phase of lack of inspiration. I have been trying super hard to keep myself working, but I have to be honest... the inspiration it's not with me! And the I think one of the majors reason for this "downtime" have been my own mind pressuring myself to create as much as I can before I have the baby. I have been super worry thinking in how I'm going to work when the little one come to join our lives. And that pressure and worry is what make my mind just freeze and I don't know how to tackle my To Do's list... and that makes me mad and worry, and the circle of unproductive time start again. I'm making sense here? I feel like I'm going a tiny bit crazy :) Yesterday I really had a bad day. I was feeling super BLAH and I didn't wanted to do anything. I tried hard really hard to draw something new. I tried to find inspiration and feel better, but the only thing I really wanted was to laid in the couch under my blanket and sleep. And I did that. This morning I woke up without great expectations. I was planning to go with the flow and see if I could accomplish something meaningful. I sat in front of my computer (and I mean in front of my laptop, because my computer is still broke and I'm trying to figure out the next step) with my cup of coffee and I saw a little basket I always have on top of my desk. And out of the blue a little light came to my mind! In that basket I have a couple of inspiration things and I have a box with of Tea Leaf Fortune Cards (don't ask me, I have a bunch of things like that here in my studio) and I decided THAT was exactly what I needed to boost my inspiration a little bit! I'm not so sure how often I'm going to do this, but I wish I can push myself to do it at least one time per week as a challenge. And this is what I did... really easy and silly, but worked for me! Put all the "Tea Leaf" cards on my desk tea-2 I picked one tea-card01 Saw the drawing (and smiled with the message) sun-tea-card And drew the image on watercolor paper with pencil sun Now, it's time to start adding the ink. I'll be posting the progress of this drawing on my facebook page. I really feel a lot better today!

Vacation is over

chile2012 I just came back from Chile! Andrew and I went to Santiago de Chile to celebrate my brother's wedding. Well, indeed we went to Santiago de Chile (9 hours flight), took other flight to Calama (2 hours) and a bus to San Pedro de Atacama (1 hour 15 min)... looooong trip!. My sweet sister in law and crazy little brother decided to get married in the Atacama Desert... in the middle of no where ;). We had a blast! The town and landscape was awesome. The weeding was super beautiful and the party tons of fun. In general lines the trip was SUPER DUPER amazing. One of the most important parts of the trip was being with my family. After 11 years or so, the 4 siblings were together in the same place and at the same time! It's not easy to coordinate something like that. We all live in different really different places (Amsterdam, Caracas, Chile and US)... You can imaging it's not easy to have a reunion like this every year.
Well, vacation is over and now is time to go back to my work. Before my trip, I had some serious computer problems and now I have to buy a new computer. I realized I wasn't super good backing up my files in my dropbox (oiischh!) And that it's not good but I guess that will teach to be better on that.

Cheers for a new week! Hope it's a productive one (I only have 3 months before having my baby... OMG! I have to start getting ready!)

My artwork in Venezuela

Remember I had 2 art festivals in February and March? (and I think I haven show you the pictures about the shows!). Well, my sister Clementina came from Venezuela to visit me in perfect timming to help me with the shows ;). I'm SOOOO HAPPY she came because I was like 14-16 weeks pregnant and I really needed her help!.
After a couple of weeks working with me in my little studio and in the shows, she decide all that work was A LOT of fun, and wanted to sell my artwork in Venezuela!. So, now, when she is not writing fitness and diet articles (she writes for her own blog and also for other blogs, because she is a rock star!) or training people, she is looking for venues to sell my art. I'm telling you, she is a rock star ;)
Last weekend she had her first bazaar representing Valentina's Prints. I think my sister and brother in law made an amazing work! Look all the cool things they made:

Valentina's Prints in Venezuela

They have prints, mugs, wooden boxes, pillow cases, iPhone covers...
Love it :)

Now you can like Valentina's prints on Facebook. And if you are looking for amazing tips on diet, exercises, fitness and more, you have to check my sister's blog and like her Facebook page, No te lo comas.

Last weeks

The last weeks have been pretty busy! But it's really strange because I feel I have been doing A LOT but I check the list I made a month ago, and I don't see ANY PROGRESS. Weird, right?

For example, clean and organize my studio, the supplies closet, file papers, etc... were the "priorities" of the list. Well, here you can see I don't take those priorities really serious :S

normal-life

BUT, I have been drawing A LOT, that count for something, right?

working

Definitely, if you put in a scale cleaning/organizing AND drawing, pen and ink will always win!

Other thing I have been doing lately is growing. The belly is getting bigger little by little. To be honest, I wasn't kind of person how is going to be taking pictures of her belly and making weekly updates about her pregnancy, because it's not my style. But I realize I should snap a few pictures while in a while only because I'm worry in the future, I'll regret not "documenting" the pregnancy in one way or another. And because I have no shame, this is me trying to take a decent picture of my 20 week belly.

me-20weeks

An so far those are all the awesome updates I have for you. Sooo exciting, right? This is what I call my simple happy life ;)
Ahhh and talking about simple. You know what I did this weekend? While everybody were enjoying the Easter weekend, painting eggs and eating chocolate, I was watching The Masters. Yes, I was watching golf and, don't worry, even my husband found that extremely weird, but seriously, I was having fun! And you want to know something a little bit more embarrassing? I cried at the end. Yes, when that kid Budda Watson won The Masters, I cried, and not because I'm pregnant and hormonal, no I cried because that is what I do every single time I see The Masters, the Superbowl, Top Chef, the Olympics, etc... It's something about seeing people reaching those huge goals... I cant help... I get emotional and cry.

Happy Monday!

the 100 faces of Arabella

Sometimes I get obsess in love with a drawing. And I draw it like million times in different ways.
For example. One day, I saw a cute little cow and I decided to make a canvas with that face.
First, I painted the cow with acrylic on a 10x10 canvas.

arabella_painting01

I added ink and Arabella was born!

arabella_painting02

I love her soooo much and I wanted to make a print, but because she was painted on the canvas (color ready, etc) I could scanned to create a print.
Sooo... I draw it again on water color paper and after that I scanned and added the color on illustrator. And I made a print for my Etsy shop.

arabella_etsy

I loved the blue background. I really liked but I felt she needed more color. I decide to take the original drawing and star adding some funky "my style" flowers.

arabella ink

After finished all the flowers, I scanned again and colored again and now Arabella is super happy living within flowers ;)

Arabella Print

What do you think is better, the plain blue background or the funky flowers?

Meantime, while she is grows...

Well, it's happening. I'm going to have a baby girl in just 5 months! How that happen? (yes, don't worry I swear I know how that happen). Time is going fast, super fast, and of course, I'm freaking out a little bit. I have to many things to do. I have like 3 millions plans and goals to follow. I'm super anxious thinking in how my life is going to change in August, and I cant wait and I the same time I want to to stop the time right now ;) Sounds crazy, right?
The last weeks have been a whirlwind of activities and work and plans and dreams. And time is passing soooo fast. I think it's time to stop planning and dreaming and just start working before we welcome our daughter.
I made a basic list of the things I really want to accomplish in the next 5 month. Soooo... while she grows, I will:

while she grows...

Happy weekend :)
